Nature Connects

Finding a group space where you and your family can genuinely feel comfortable can be incredibly difficult. Busy environments, unfamiliar or fixed expectations and the pressure to join in can feel overwhelming and, all too often, families are expected to fit into spaces that were not designed with their needs in mind. Families share that they want connection, but don’t always know where they can find it safely.

Neurodivergence means that connection, communication and regulation can look different for every person. Previous experiences of being misunderstood or excluded can make entering a new group additionally isolating and leave families feeling very vulnerable. Many of our families tell us that they need spaces where movement, quiet, sensory needs and different ways of taking part are understood without judgement.

Nature Connects offers a group space where there is no single right way to belong. We created Nature Connects because we understand how important felt safety, shared enjoyment and time outdoors can be. We want to support children, young people and families to build connection at their own pace through a neuroaffirming and trauma-informed approac

Nature Connects provides welcoming, in-person group spaces shaped by EcoSensory Therapy, Theraplay and Forest School principles. Together, these approaches help us create opportunities for sensory exploration, playful shared experiences, practical outdoor activity and relationship-building. The natural environment gives everyone room to notice, move, pause and return, while experienced staff gently support the group to feel predictable, flexible and emotionally safe. Children and adults can participate alongside one another without pressure to perform, speak or engage in a particular way.

The gatherings include support from qualified and experienced NeuroConnect staff, time to connect with others, and opportunities to explore the outdoors together. Play, creativity and curiosity are at the heart of Nature Connects. Sessions may include shared games, sensory invitations, making, discovering and caring for the space, with choices built in throughout. These gentle experiences can support co-regulation, confidence and a growing sense of connection with ourselves, each other and the natural world.

At Nature Connects, relationship comes before outcome. Adults are supported to notice and respond to children’s cues, share moments of delight and create experiences of being seen and accepted. Families can spend time with others who understand, while children and young people are given the freedom to approach connection in ways that feel manageable and meaningful to them. Over time, the group can become a caring community where difference is valued and nobody has to navigate challenges alone.
